I stay pretty removed from the hardware scene, preferring to ask people who know more than me when the time comes to upgrade. My current rig is about 4 years old now, and I'm in dire need.

I read something about a cheap windows 8 upgrade if you buy after June 4th or something, which means I'll probably wait at least a couple weeks. But is there anything on the near horizon that makes it worth waiting longer? Keep in mind my budget will be between 1000 and 1500, and I'll probably buy something already put together. I'll be using it mostly for developing code, but for sure if I get a new box I want it to at least be able to play the newest games on decent settings.

Whatcha all think?

Thanks.

The $30 deal doesn't seem to be around anymore, but there's still a student deal (retail home premium is $120 unless it went down). Not sure what the deal is you're talking about happening in june;

$64 student ed Professional

The question was more about hardware than windows.

Yeah I assumed that, but there's other people who know about hw in that price range (have already done the research recently) more than me. I was just throwing that out there.

Windows 8 looks like a smart phone o/s.
