Time for a tech brain dump:
http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ <- this is an awesome program for doing a traceroute over time to any IP address.
Load the program up and drop in the IP address you want to test, let it run while you play, copy the output to your clipboard, save in a text file, ready to send to your ISP.
I showed this to Stu and Blackhoax last night - as they use Road Runner, and are having awful problems playing Darkfall lately.
It will show you % of packet loss, per router you are crossing, in the route to your destination - which can help pinpoint problem routers, so you can yell at your ISP.
Also - there is internetpulse.net
I can't speak highly enough about this site - it can show you where US traffic problems are.
i.e. internetpulse.net basically shows the various big networks in the US and their health in relation to their peers.
i.e. right now - there is really fat packet loss going from San Diego to Chicago, across NTT's network, it's like 25% packet loss and latency of 190ms (this is terrible)
This is supporting evidence for the issues Stu and Blackhoax see with Darkfall (it's hosted in Chicago, and they are in San Diego)
http://internetpulse.net/Main.aspx?Origi...&Metric=TCPStu, Blackhox, have you guys called RR yet and yelled?
p.s. IF you guys are interested I could do a little walkthrough video on this shit
