It won't actually cost me 45k a yr. I'd rather my taxes goto that though, than special entitlement programs for votes smirk

It included shoplifting prior to the federal appeals court ruling that that was unconstitutional...
Quote:
"Our decision does not hold the California
three strikes law unconstitutional, only its application to
mandate a 25-year-to-life sentence for petty
theft offenses," Circuit Judge Marsha Berzon wrote.

So I am not that "fucking stupid" for thinking it, because that shit did happen.

If you read that story you posted, the bum was breaking and entering, and convicted of burglery, not shoplifting, so yes, you're still a fucking idiot.
and how about this quote
Court records show neither of Taylor's two prior robbery convictions involved weapons. But under California's three-strikes law, any third felony conviction could mean a mandatory life sentence.

From that one
Quote:
California has over 7,000 inmates serving three-strike sentences. Nearly half of those are for offenses which are not "serious" or "violent." California is the only state which permits three strikes sentences for non-serious offenses. Nearly 1,000 inmates are serving life sentences for petty theft or minor drug offenses.

Quote:
Three Strikes and You?re Out" law. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, writing for the 5-4 majority in the two cases, upheld sentences of 25 years to life for the theft of three golf clubs and 50 years to life for the theft of nine video tapes from two K-Mart stores.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Nullifying part of
California's three strikes law, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday that life in prison for shoplifting is cruel and unusual punishment. The ruling, issued by a three-judge panel of 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, is expected to overturn 340 sentences for California defendants and spark appeals by inmates serving life for other nonviolent offenses.

I understand what you are saying Syphax, it would suck to be in jail for something petty. If you are convicted 3 times though, whats that say to you? To me it says that individual is going to continue committing crimes. What about that guy in ND thats accused of raping that Sjodin girl. After being in prison for 23 yrs he gets out last march and is a suspect in a rape case? (He did it, no shit) cmon man...Criminals don't committ one crime and then stop, they keep doing it. The question is when is that guy who robbed the liquor store going to shoot someone.

Opinion 1)
I think people that steal shit more than three times should be beaten with a cane like they do in other countries.
Opinion 2)
People that are hyped up on ANY kind of drug are very unpredictable and dangerous. And if your a police officer and its their life or your life.. you better get the job done and go home to your family.
Opinion 3)
People that trash the cops are pretty fucking stupid in my opinion. Some cops do a poor job and dont serve the public well. On the other hand many officers are very professional and do a great job serving the public and making them safe.

I disagree with the fact about petty crimes. It has been proven god knows how many times that rapists especially serial rapists will reoffend. I am more than a fan of that law under the new terms, but it isn't worth it when it comes to these petty crimes.
The new terms of the law where it only pertains to felonies, and other dangerous acts I am 100% in favor of it.
