Last Friday I got a letter in the mail congratulating me because DSL was finally available in my area. Not quite believing it, I called Verizon to see if this could really be true. The guy on the phone assured me it was, so I signed up for DSL.
He told me that my modem would arrive via UPS by Friday at the latest, and that all I had to do was plug it in and I'd be set.
Well my modem arrived just now, 2 days early. However, I also received an email that says my account won't work until the 30th because they are "backed up." I've been waiting for broadband for the last 7 or 8 years so I guess I can wait another 13 days, but goddamnit I want it NOW ARHHGHGHJGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHGH........

Cable although having a higher bandwidth capability, it is limited by the amount of use and load on the network that you share with all the ppl in your area. DSL on the other hand is a dedicated line uninhibited to the internet at all times regardless of the amount of use or load on the network. They are pretty much the same in quality of service so you can't say Cable pwns anything.

So DSL stands for Dedicated Service Line?

I have cable and my friend who lives in the same area as me has DSL, and I generally ping 10-15ms better then him.
