Cable is setup as a series of "loops", if your loop gets too many people you get degradation. They also use bandwidth limiters.
I ditched cable for DSL 2 yrs ago. Guaranteed 1.5 down, 768+ up.

I don't even see how Cable vs. DSL is still even a debate.
It has nothing to do with which is better, it has to do with which ISP you are using.
Do they cap your upload? Do they cap your download? What is the initial speed they give you? Does its quality fade at any time? What's the price?
I've seen some ISP's DSL better than some ISP's cable, and some cable better than some DSL.

You should consider moving out of that Barn of yours in WA and move closer to the city.
I've had access to Broadband cable since 1998.

Digital Subscriber Line, I think. I like my DSL... dedicated line, never any slowdowns and it has gone "down" 3 or 4 times in 3 years for maybe a couple hours at a time.

My parents have cable at their house, and they're all networked... I think its noticeably slower than my DSL connex!

Cable sucks if you share it with 8093402938 other people on your line. DSL is pretty good, but they have very lengthy and often downtimes.
