Even if the funds were in my bank account, paypal explained to me if the funds were confirmed as being fraudulent, I would have no legal right to keep that money. Paypal explained that they would put my account in a negative balance for $922 dollars, and if I didn't pay up, they would destroy my credit, and have a collections agency go after me.
