Have you ever compared a default midi component instrument, with a line-in recorded sample from a MIDI keyboard?
If done properly the the .wav is purified, and there is no static, or feedback. MIDI samples suck, and people still actually USE them. They're short, and easily able to get static, and they are not easily filtered, and any modifications done to them will just mess them up.
I've done a lot of sampling myself, since I will never resort to using any kind of Standard Roland MPU-401 Sample.
