Afghanistan is now run by some Taliban leaders and a whole slew of Warlords that are PAIDED by the US to keep peace. But the poppy trade is back in full force and really the US is no closer to getting Bin Laden then they were in the first place. Any improvements at all remain in the main cities, and once the money runs out and the soilders leave the country will go back to its warring ways until one group wins. Who that will be largely depends on who the US equips the most, but not always.
I will say that at least the starts of schools and freedoms for women will maybe create a climate that will enable another generation to think about some small freedoms, but change takes years and years and those who do not want change are sitll mostly in power.
