Dont really agree witht hat mexicans article, but I'd say he was a damn good patriot, and not so much a hero.
A hero would be someone who directly put their life in danger to save others' lives. If he died covering another soldier, yea he's a hero then. But if he just died serving our country, I'd call him a top-notch patriot, a martr even.
Not so much a hero but still most definitly deserving of all of our respect.
