Even though I own one american, and one import, any 1985+ model Toyota is the most reliable source of transportation. They may not suffice in looks, or have many high performance models, but I can guarentee you they won't break down like a peice of shit Chevy.
I hate Chevy with a passion, anyone dumb enough to own one, should be shot. Ford is okay, if it's a TRUCK, otherwise you should jump off a cliff if you decide to buy anything else made by Ford.
I can't say much about Dodge, since I havn't had any problems with my 99 RAM, but I can guarentee any older Dodge is a complete peice of shit.
Stay away from expensive imports, and make sure you have full coverage insurance if you intend on buying one.
I think for reliability purposes, a Toyota will last a life time. My mom bought her 1988 4 door Toyota Corolla back in 1987 when it was brand new, and that car hasn't had a problem with it since we bought it. Has 120k miles on it, and STILL hasn't had a tune-up.
My dad owns a Toyota Tundra, and his lease is expiring on it, and I'll probably sell my truck for it. It doesn't have the looks, but it has a 4.7 ltr. Lexus V-8, with the racing package, and it will blow the doors off my truck any day.
Initially I'd hate to support any import of any kind, but you just can't beat Toyota for reliability purposes.
