i have a sony trinitron 21" monitor right now, but the real estate on my desk is super small.... I was getting tired of the big hulky thing, and was going to buy myself a brand new monitor.
On these flat panel lcd monitors, what should I be looking for? I play games like: BF:V, Ultima Online Samurai Edition, DoD, and Hearts Online, or anything with consensual PvP.
Anything specific on the frequency? the Contrast Ratio? etc? I know that on the old monitor, the DPI was really important, but with flat panels, i have no idea whats going on.
I hear people saying stuff about "ghosting" on LCD's and such, "dead pixels". overall, just trying to avoid taking a step backwards in the gaming department. .
I also read on some business section of a newspaper that there will be an influx of LCD's on the market which will lower the price, but Im not too sure about that either.
Im willing to spend about 1000 dollars (hopefully 800 would be optimal, but i know this shit doesnt come cheap) , so if some of you tech guru's/ computerphiles could provide me with some decent input, or reccommend a monitor, id greatly appreciate it.

it'll be l33t and ch33p. Probably be out right before christmas.
LCOS flat HD TV's are already on sale, 55" for about $2,500. Better quality than plasma HD's.

refresh rates are too slow, they cause "blur" effects, for gaming you have to stay away from LCD's, CRT is the way to go for gaming, as of now.

I am by no means an authority on the subject, but from what I've heard the LCD's go out one whole line at a time instead of one pixel, causing alot more expensive repairs and replacements.

What you're looking for is a low Video Response Time. This is the time it takes for the liquid crystal to turn to draw a new image. With a high response time, you get ghosting in high FPS applications, because the LCD won't update quickly enough to display the information the video card is sending to it.
16ms is about the fastest Video Response I have seen, but it can range up to 50ms. At 16ms you won't really see a difference between a CRT and an LCD. 25ms is descent though.
A high Contrast ratio and NIT can make a big difference in image quality, but if the Video Response is crappy, high FPS game playing is unbearable.
