Not sure which version you used Pan. Renoise 1.5 is out for registered users (alpha) and should be public in the next few weeks. I'd be sure to demo that version - you may just have better luck.
>Renoise's VST plug-ins is a very cool feature. However, I think that any idiot who charges for their VST plug-ins on their site should be casterated, since most VST plugins are usually very simple, and very limited.
I have 20 gigabites of VST's of both effects and virtual synths and I couldn?t live without them. VST (emulations) such as the Korg Legacy series, vanguard, Absynth, wave?s line of effects, etc has taken the digital evolution to a new level. Amazing what home studios can produce.
>Another thing that sucks about renoise, is the fact that it has absolutely no support for .Mod .s3m .xm .It formats, yet they call themselves "mod" software.
I have full support of all these extensions without one hickup. Its great to be able to go all the way back to mods I made in 1984 as well as support for vst integration. Again, I'd wait to try out the new version 1.5.
>Renoise also has very limited midi keyboard support.
How so? I use Protools, Sonar, Cubase SX / Nuendo, fruityloops, Reason and never felt left out of features. It comes with all the CC# basics (aftertouch, velocity, volume, pans, etc) of most hosts on the market.
>Some of it's effects, are more advanced in terms of tracking the effects onto the patterns whereas when you use what I use, the filters are built in, and only customizable in a per channel basis, where I am not able to have complete full control over the filtering effects, unless I may need a special VST plugin to accomplish that.
You can use multitimbral vst's and or link effects to specific tracks within renoise itself. That way you arent loading in 5 of the same plugins for 5 tracks.
>I think Renoise still has a bit of catching up to do. Now that >Modplug Tracker is an open source project, it may also be open to modification, and I'm hoping the open source community will able to make the Modplug Tracker a lot better. I've used every single feature in the tracker, and understand every function, effect, and ability, now that I've used it, I understand it's weaknesses and what it lacks.
Dont hold your breath. While I?m a big fan of modplug software and have used there software for years, I have found little growth off their products. When I made the move from the amiga to the PC using OctaMED, modplug was really the only accurate players at the time. Problem is, not much has changed beside vst support.
>If you haven?t tried it yet, Modplug Tracker is an excellent way to track music. It has VST plug-ins, as well as the built in ability to sample, and refilter your own samples.
I was into modplug tracker before. Well.. Ultima Online beta (a fitting reference). <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
