Get one of the new gen cards like the Geforce 6800 Ultra, or the ATI X800 Pro, anything less is a waste.

Pci-E is better then the agp cards right now?
What if i got an Athlon64 then just used a good agp card like the 6800 ultra or x800 xt
See im really confused
I wana get a new computer with HL2 and other new games coming out.
But im really lost
One person says Pci-E isnt fully developed
One person says AGP is better then Pci-e
what should i do??

ideal time to buy old generation video cards.. since the new core vid cards have been released, old top of the line cards are not hitting low prices and are still VERY good (9800 pro)

That 9800 pro might last you for another year(if that), and you'll be buying another one. With the beefy 6800 and x800 technology available, you can only imagine the quality of games is only going to go up, may as well buy ahead of the curve if not for raw power, then for the fact that no video card technology has ever jumped this far from one gen to the next in terms of performance boosts, that should be enough to convince you right there. The X800 and the 6800 literally run 100% faster than the 9800 XT, case closed!
9800 XT 3D Mark = 6000-6500
6800 & x800 3D Mark = 12500-13000
A complete 100% increase in performance, never been a leap in technology that far for video cards, and probably for any technology if you think about it. (although I can't be 100% certain)

that computer is expensive for those crap parts. amd pls..
pci-e is crap right now. it may be the wave of the future like torak says, but i'm almost certain if you get a top-notch agp gpu, it'll last for at least 2 years. by then u'll probably be upgrading again. the trick is to get some overclocking in, it could possibly save you some $.
i put my computer together for about 1100
amd64 3000+
corsair twinxl1024
seagate 80gb sata
msi neo platinum (this mobo sucks for overclocking)
evga 6800gt
19" nec fe991sb
enermax 470 psu (dont skimp on psu if u plan to o/c)
klisph 5.1 ultra (i got lucky with these off ebay for like a bill n half)
sb audigy 2
cd-rw 52x
i think that's pretty much it... most of it was off newegg.com
