Guildwars is hosting another huge beta event where anybody can get access from the 29-31st of october. Basically, you download a 10MB client that will allow you to play. To create an acct you simply give them ur email addy and choose a PW and you'll be let into the game.
DL the client and make sure it works here.
This game was built from the GROUND UP for massive PvP on a guild-level. Exactly what we are looking for and RIGHT up our alley. And if Rain's quote (and he's a very good judge of games) is even remotely right - we could be looking at our next UO.
Lets get moving on this asap. WoW prolly won't hold a candle to it. As far as graphics go....check out this video to erase all doubts.
Here's what Rainman had to say about the game: " Here's my thoughts on guild wars.
Months back they released an alpha client to the public. The company had many non-believers. They did this move to prove that their client in alpha phase was more stable and more pvp balanced than games that have been released for years. It worked. During the three days of guild wars alpha over 200,000 people tried it out.
Reason why most people didn't like it was because of features that weren't implemented yet. Mostly because it was an alpha client. Another reason was the arena based pvp, and not having the ability to enter a hunting area and PK.
I liked it because immediately the game was balanced. If you create a pvp balanced game from the start, then it will be perfect upon release. Look at wow, there are uber classes and completely useless classes because they didn't focus on pvp till the end.
The arena pvp system will be the hottest thing around. It may not sound so cool, but when you are competing online against 1000's of other guilds for the #1 spot, it will be. There are no shards, so this will be our chance to be #1 of ALL online guilds. Just like dark and light can be that same chance.
Here's how the pvp works
There will be hundreds of skills you gain through questing\monster bashing or you can just buy them from NPC. However, you can only choose 8 of them to take with you into a fig ht. So you have to mix and match your arsenal with your team mates to get the perfect combination for group pvp. Example: Joe the priest may have a fire debuff, but he has no fire attacks. However his teammate John has flaming arrows. If John was to pick Ice arrows instead, it would be a waste of a skill. Here's a cool part. Your characters stats will never be significantly weaker than somebody 20 levels higher than you. So you may only have 20 skills available, while he has 100, but if you choose the right 8 to counter him. You will win the fight. It is skill based, not level based.
Then you group up with your friends and join an arena, where 1-4 other teams are present. There are objectives you must complete, winners move to next round against people that just won the same match against other teams. All the way up to the best vs best. Which we did many times.
Upon release the game will have full guild vs guild action (actually, the next beta event will). Where it moves from 10v10v10v10, to guildvsguildvsguildvsguild. There will also be guild halls and other fruity shit for guilds that win tournaments.
If you are only into pking miners and shit. You might not like the game to much, because you can only fight in arenas and staged areas. However, if you are into competitive game play, and point systems. Then you will probably love guild wars.
Did I mention no monthly fee? How can you beat that?
I had a blast during alpha, everyone in our group did. I personally can't wait till this game is released. If nobody else wants to, I will GM this game. As its the only game I had so much fun playing since UO. "
So like i said earlier - get ur asses ready to log in at opening time on Oct 29th.
The beta will continue onward after the 31st and if u pre-order ($5-$10 at places like Bestbuy, Gamestop) they will let u play in the Beta. This pretty much means we can all get in the beta as i doubt any of us can't affoard $5.
I'm hyped for this game. I haven't been this excited since pre:sb beta.
Release is set for Q1-2005.

I dunno...Sounds like a Counter-Strike ladder with arrows and spells instead of bullets and grenades. I played Alpha and had the same feeling. Depends on the maximum amount of members a guild can have and what the missions are. Like siege, infiltrate, etc. I'm gonna read a bit more into it, but I have a feeling that a guild is gonna be limited in some way.

We've been alpha testing GW since April, and the game has come a long way in that time. It is true that testing the game has been boring at times because they would limit us to certain types of content in order to get specific feedback, but that's just a normal part of testing. I'll give a quick recap what my thoughts on the game.
[color:"yellow"]General Gamepley
Character development = faster than Shadowbane
Game is skill based, not level based
Each class, right now, has 150 skills they can potentially get
You must do missions for skill gems, or rely on player trades
GW is anti-zerg, and its pvp aspects are built around 8 man teams at this point. There are a few maps that can field multiple 8 man teams.

Pretty decent, and guild management is handled by account...not character.
Guild halls are ok, and supposedly raidable at some point.
Guild tabbards look cool, but they don't really stand out like they should.
[color:"yellow"]PvP Rankings, etc
We still haven't seen any of this, and its a pretty important feature that a lot of us have asked about a lot over the past few months. We fully expect a robust ladder, ranking, etc system because without it...all the combat is pretty fucking pointless.

There are tons of different strategies already in PvP, and it also depends on which PvP map you are playing. Don't expect to go caster heavy, warrior heavy, etc and pwn every map. Group balance and who will pwn who really depends on the various maps. You'll probably have to develop several characters to rotate in and out depending on the map your team is fighting on.
Combat itself can go a few ways.
1.
You own everything in sight because you have a good group build, excellent teamwork, and you know the map.
2.
You get your ass handed to you because you encountered the exact counter to your group build. You can still win though if the opposing group is sloppy. If they are skilled, yer toast.
3.
You meet a group who has a competitive build and is skilled. Combat can be over relatively quick, or it can ebb and flow over a longer period of time. We've had very intense fights that weren't boring at all, but lasted 30-45 minutes.
[color:"yellow"]Other Stuff
There is no true persistant world, so there is no ganking hapless newbs. In theory, there should be enough regular PvP/Arena map fights to satisfy people's need for PvP though.
There will be PvE content, but supposedly it won't take away from the games PvP focus.
This game is anti-zerg. Having a large shit-ton of members won't help a guild here because the maps only support so many teams, and the group unit is built around 8 players. That said, whoever brings the most skill and the right group configuration to the table will win the day.
If you guys decide to field a team there let me know. We have a fansite we've built up over the months that has a focus on PvP for GW, and we could always use another peep or two over there.

Cons -
No open PvP no chance to grief your enemy into tears ect.
Pros -
FPS style fast paced requires teamwork and a hell of a lot more fun then anything else I have played since the E3 promo. I already have my preview copy and ready for the 29th

Snarf is pretty much the only person I know on an anti-Guildwars crusade. Everyone else had a fucking blast in the "E3 for everyone" event.
