I don't think most Muslims even care that much. It's the government and religious leaders that want to create frenzy.
As long as Muslims are fighting infidels, they can't fight their oppression (on a government and religious level).

You're oversimplifying a complex situation.
We aren't at literal war with the majority of other Muslim dicatorships, and women are still regulated to sub-human positions.

You're stereotyping roughly half of the United States population over which event? Alan Keyes comments on Ted Rall? I'm only guessing here.
Alan Keyes is the man who said, ". . . when serious and sustained attempts to undermine public opinion on a matter genuinely essential to national life cannot be resisted by other means, governmental action may be necessary. For governmental action is also the action of a free people."
He's basically saying it's okay for the president to jail people because of their influence on other's opinion. Which is absolutely absurd; he is not a constitutionalist, whatever he may claim.
Back to hypocrisy, one politician's comments (or a thousand emails for that matter) don't represent this country's take on one of its founding principles. I agree that it would be hypocritical for Keyes to be yelling about this current issue.
But, your comment and cartoon completely ignore the issue that I raised: numerous American media organizations refuse to offend Muslims, but have no problem with offending Jews or Christians (in the name of free speech). They give up their right to free speech because they fear Muslim backlash.
Hence, hypocrites & cowards.

Anyone? Of course not. That word is completely exclusive and it's unjustified. I said that doesn't represent a group of people in its entirety (Republicans).
You're angry that people were angry over the Toles cartoon? You are missing the point. The media still prints that cartoon. Why? Because they know they aren't going to be murdered over it.
LOL; so as long as the newspaper has nothing to do with the event, it's not newsworthy? truly rofl.

It's not about the NYT specifically. It's about all those like them being cowed. You think our ME policy is more important than that? Wow.

I've never been offended by a cartoon. I might think some of them are funny or retarded, but that's the extent. But if the paper writes about the subject (and they should, it's pretty big news) then they should let the readers know what they're talking about. Of course it's not about the pictures. I don't think anyone believes that it is. It's about the reaction to them: the death threats if you print them, the recent murder of Van Gogh, etc.
It's pretty comical seeing traditional free speech warriors back down from something that has been their "arena" for awhile. I find myself at odds with both sides pretty often. I'm pretty consistent when it comes to free speech.
So it's just not a big deal? You said so yourself, it isn't about the cartoon.

I must say, that if I was an editor I don't know if I could ask my staff to risk their lives.
