I'm making some tracks for a rap group called MIND CLICC, with Lei Majors and Face Young from Long Beach that really has a shot at the big time. They have the talent and the connections and they always sell out of thier underground demo CDs, the only missing link is good quality WEST COAST gangster rap beats, and although I'm a metalhead, I'm also a classically trained drummer with jazz and funk experience and some knowledge of theory and composition so this project is right up my alley. Lei Majors is a good freind of mine and I'm gonna do what I can to help.
The programs im using are FL studio 6 deluxe producer edition ( which is actually better than i thought it would be), Sony Acid and Sound Forge. I also got Reason but havent figured out how to compose with it without a midi controller which I havent had the cash to get yet.
Where can I get high quality samples for looping? I've looked on the torrent sites and only found one good DL, the g-town church samples, which have some good sounds, but i need alot more.
I know some of you are into looping and whatnot, like Rootdown. Hook a brother up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sup bro you need to get some plugins... a shitload ill see if i can zip you a pack... ill also work on some beats with you if you want....
i use FL6 as well and zipping and sending the complete work package back and forth is fucking easy as shit....
basically if you love doing drum edits and shit thatd be great because i can pretty much engineer and select all the sounds very well.... but because i have projects on the go for others it would be hard for me to complete full tracks.... so im sure we could setup some kinda co-production type thing...
gimmie a shout

Making loops is pretty easy to do, why would you want to barrow someone else's beats when you can make your own? I make my own. The whole point in composition is to be creative, and make something unique, and different. I generally try new things all the time, and mix and match new melodies.
Start off with some good bass, with a short melody loop, and a few mixed drum samples, and you're pretty set to go. I'd like to think that modern hip-hop is best played now, with an awesome bass line, maybe some dj scratches added, with maybe 3-4 breaks per song. I'm working on a hiphop theme for a friend of mine in California, and I am working on a new age song, with a touch of ethnic percussion.

Although I agree with you on some level, I also would like to smack you upside your fucking dome with a large salmon. In some form or way the majority of the music is sampled. Sampling OLD OLD OLD songs can turn into some of the most amazing songs. Infact I bet over 90% of the producers today sample music.
Btw if it's so easy, then why the HELL haven't you made something worth listening too? Last I remember everything you tried promoting on LoD's forums could have been made by a fucking 15 year old using fruity loops.

Your not talking to a 12 yr old wannabe Vanilla Ice that wants to bite everyones shit. I'm a classically trained percussionist/drummer of 15 yrs. I dont need anyone to build rythms or melodies or explain your mickey mouse composition practices of how you average 3 'break'' per song to me or what a double flamadiddle is.
I was talking about individual sounds/instruments retard. But, since I posted I've figured out how to use Reason 3.0 which is basically a limitless virtual midi studio( which I would recommend to anyone that makes digital music) and found a shit ton of samples to use.
But thanx for caring.
