I had to take an environmental science class so I can get bachelors and I have to survey 50 people about a shitty topic: Garbage Crisis in America.
So if you guys could do me a favor and fill this stupid shit out for me it'd be much appreciated.
1. Agree or Disagree: I am aware of a garbage crisis in the United States:
2. Agree or Disagree: The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), that prohibits uncontrolled dumping, is enough to help America's garbage crisis?
3. Agree or Disagree: Current U.S. Landfills have enough space to maintain our growing population.
4. Agree or Disagree: As a nation, we should be recycling as much as we can.
5. The current system of recycling is:
(a) in need of improvement.
(b) fine the way it is now.
6. True or False: Recycling helps the environment by reducing the pollution and reuse our ?waste? by turning it into something else.
7. How much of your own garbage do you recycle?
(a) 0-20%
(b) 21-40%
(c) 41-60%
(d) 61-80%
(e) 81-100%
8. Agree or Disagree: It is such a burden to recycle my garbage.
9. Who should put more effort into recycling?
(a) The Government
(b) Large businesses
(c) The people
10. Do you feel that having a curb-side recycling service is too expensive? Yes or No

1. Disagree
2. Disagree
3. Agree
4. Disagree; the only sufficient both in process and pollution is recycling cans/metal. The other sources of recycling are more pollutant.
(a) in need of improvement.
6. False: Most recycling causes more pollution. Extracting methane from landfills is in my opinion the most productive form of pollution control and/or energy redistribution.
(a) 0-20%
8. Agree and causes more pollution.
(b) Large businesses
10. Yes and causes more pollution and/or counterproductive.
This process is much like the Global warming theory. In that this has been polarized and pushed onto the public as true, when in fact the process of recycling in almost every case accept recycling of cans has cause more pollution. If we extracted the methane from small landfills we could not only provide power to cities at a cheaper price but get rid of our trash in the process.
This has been proven to me, to be the best source of conservation financially and environmentally.
If your professor is liberal do not turn what I say in, you will undoubtedly get a D for nonconforming.

exactly what brick said except for the percentage of waste I recycle.
I'd say 20-40%. I drink a lot.

1. Agree or Disagree: I am aware of a garbage crisis in the United States: disagree
2. Agree or Disagree: The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), that prohibits uncontrolled dumping, is enough to help America's garbage crisis? no, try bringing in harsh punishment... like making people sleep in the shit they try to illegally dump.
3. Agree or Disagree: Current U.S. Landfills have enough space to maintain our growing population. obviously no, otherwise you wouldn't ask this question.
4. Agree or Disagree: As a nation, we should be recycling as much as we can. yes

(a) in need of improvement.
(b) fine the way it is now.
obviously a

10. Do you feel that having a curb-side recycling service is too expensive? Yes or No
NO, we have one in australia... it makes things alot easier and even lazy people like myself utilise it.

Am I getting smart with you? How would you know?

Anything... But can I ask where you heard about recycling causes more pollution? Again my professor would rather hear new ideas than just be fed the same ol' shit about recycling.
I'm also going to take what Stretch said for a "question 11" about the recycling in apartment buildings simply because I live in the bay area so theres a massive amount of apartment complexes.
Again I really appreciate you guys helping me out.

There is a lot of info on the subject.

http://www.epa.gov/lmop/
http://uspowerpartners.org/Topics/SECTION6Topic-LandfillMethane.htm
Quote:
The recovery and use of methane from landfills can significantly reduce the overall emissions of greenhouse gases. Landfills are the largest anthropogenic source of methane in the U.S. There are a variety ways that utilities can reduce overall emissions of methane from landfills. Landfill methane can be collected by developing gas recovery systems, and it can then be used to generate electricity, as a fuel for nearby industrial purposes, or enriched and sold to gas pipelines.

Quote:
Methane is a primary constituent of landfill gas (LFG) and a potent greenhouse gas when released to the atmosphere. Reducing emissions by capturing LFG and using it as an energy source can yield substantial energy, economic, and environmental benefits. The implementation of landfill gas energy (LFGE) projects reduces greenhouse gases and air pollutants, leading to improved local air quality and reduced possible health risks. LFG projects also improve energy independence, produce cost savings, create jobs, and help local economies. Internationally, significant opportunities exist for expanding landfill gas energy.

Quote:
Methane from landfills at the state's 770-acre central facility in Sandtown and a 570-acre landfill in Georgetown is being processed to generate an expected 7.4 megawatts of electricity in total - enough for the yearly needs of 7,400 homes. The Georgetown site is already producing, while the Sandtown facility is expected to be online in the next few weeks.

Quote:
The methane produced by Canadian landfill sites contains enough energy to heat more than 600 000 homes a year.

I believe in conservation, its just not my religion.
Its important that we do not take out the knee caps of our businesses with "green building" like our state has recently been talking about, and are near mandating. (LEED Building)
The problem with the green wackjobs is its hard for people to listen to them when they actually have a good idea because they are in fact wackjobs.
If we used tax payers money properly to reuse our trash as energy/electricity all while eliminating green house gases, we are killing two birds with one stone. The problem is that recycling like global warming has become the religion of the left. And like any religion changing ones' mind about their religion is nearly impossible. You wont change mine.
Recycling is a farce and a waste of our time.
I will pm you my address, i take checks.
