Yeah it's pretty sweet, you can start a chat room then invite ppl to it and have a private voice session. The quality is really good and clear and even though there is no push to talk, the background noise is very limited and it wasn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be. Of course it's a problem for ppl who run audio for Voice and Game through external speakers and also have a mic. Then you hear all game sounds twice and yourself talking, which is no good. Overall though, I'm pretty impressed with Steam, I never used it that much till TF2, and man they did a good job on it. I like the buddy list, the voice options, and the ability to play games without CD's in the disc drive.

Uhm that doesn't sound very good then because how many people don't play games using speakers? 3-4 people in there and all anyone is going to hear is the game being played wont even be able to talk... Dunno I'll try it but I run everything through the speakers so might be kind of lame. Pretty sure Vents still going to be the best option.

Definitely needed for any team to be successful, that's for sure. I don't mind playing it, as long as the ppl I'm supporting aren't douchebags.

Most everyone I know uses head phones for play, so this set up is pretty standard. Headphones > Surround sound if you ask me. If ppl don't use headphones then yeah push to talk is necessary.

I like being able to hear things in my headphones that ppl who don't use headphones don't hear. It's not so much a big deal with TF2, but in BF2142 for example, you can hear ppl sneaking up on you or you can hear ppl who are cloaked, and you can hear the infamous "knife coming out of sheath" sound, I also play late at night and surround sound doesn't work for sleeping roommates. Overall I just got used to hearing things very intimately and clear with headphones. <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
