I'd rather lose the slight advantage then look like a complete tool.
The advantage is more than slight and the headlight gets pulled out at the track and put back in for the long drive home at night.
Heat is a killer for power when it comes to turbo, a real killer. The difference in intake temps is quite a bit.
Here is a little test for you. Take an empty 2 little bottle, close it up with the lid at room temp ( 75 degrees or so ). Put it in the fridge at about 35 degree's and check on it in about 3 hours. Notice how it has sucked up? Same amount of air in the bottle, difference is, its a lot more dense. Same goes with the air going into the engine from outside compaired to the heated air in the engine bay.
Air + Fuel = power.
Colder air = more power, less chance of detonation.
Hot air = more chance of detonation
I dont want my $460 pistons to end up looking like this over what people think looks stupid but works very welll. I am there to race and to win.
