He was just sharing his firms opinion with a few persons in the guild that he may have built a relationship with on a level outside this guild. From what I have reviewed so far, some quality dollars were spent on the economic data involved. I think his statements were a softer way of saying "I will not be sharing this with every douche bag in this guild."
It is his intellectual property and you should respect his wish to keep it close to the vest.
