I'm going to apologize in advance and plug gateway again.. the cheapest laptop with a decent card in it I can find.
Specs here.
Gateway? P-7805u FX Edition
$1299
Available at Best Buy
Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache)
Genuine Microsoft? Windows Vista? Home Premium (64-bit) with SP1
*not listed, but the Rez on the monitor should be 720P 1440x900 ( I think)
FX Premium Design with brushed metal keyboard surround and high-impact composite finish
4096MB 1066MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Memory (2-2048MB modules)
320GB 7200RPM SATA hard drive
Chassis with NVIDIA? GeForce? 9800M GTS Graphics with 1GB of GDDR3 Discrete Video Memory and Intel? PM45 Chipset
Only thing that sucks is that you can't talk down Best Buy like you can a Sales Rep from Gateway. The P editions are made by Clevo who builds many of the premium laptops sold retail for Sager and many others.. good company.
Gateway isn't.
I tried to find the same thing you're looking for, basically no-frills + a decent card, but as far as I've seen as soon as you get into anything about a Nvidia 7600/8600/9600, you're looking at 1500 bucks minimum. At least the Gateway comes with all the frills + sub 1500.
If you can find it sub 1500, dual 9600's in SLi (laptop) are better than the 8800 GTS-M.
Hope that helps, and I believe one of the Lords (sorry newb here) is a HP sales rep, and especially during these times they should be able to cut you quite a deal.
