What these companies are doing is sacrificing a high quality of customer service in exchange for gaining profits and\or cutting loses. The same thing every other company out there attempts to do. However, this doesn't always work with the entertainment industry, because they should be listening to their largest and most dedicated customer base. Which isn't console gamers.

Call of Duty 4 sold A LOT more on console than PC. PC gamers are no longer their most dedicated costumer base because most of them are pirates. The number of people who bought the PC version of CoD4 is half as many who actually played it on PC. It's not longer the biggest market for game developers. Even Valve has ventured off into the console market.

The most dedicated customers, the ones who play online every day, and the ones who play competitively in clans. They are the voice for the rest of the gaming world. What game lives or dies is decided by them. Casual gamers don't normally go into the store and pick something off the shelf randomly and make that company profit by random chance. The games that get the shelves are decided upon by the most dedicated of gamers (Why walmart shows up to conventions like E3).

I don't know why you consider the hardcore clans to be on PC. What proof do you have? The largest game league is MLG and they are primarily focused on console. A lot of PC leagues have shut down all together, and if you look up the numbers on any gaming league website you will find that there are a lot more console members than PC members.

If they don't listen to their most dedicated fan base they will take a loss in the long run. Maybe not now, but maybe when CoD5 or 6 comes along. Why would I want to support a business that is willing to make a quick financial gain this quarter while risking future financial stability. That will likely effect only the employees that we care about, the guys that actually make the game badass behind the scenes. MW2 itself is badass.

You are so wrong about this and it contradicts what you just said before. "What these companies are doing is sacrificing a high quality of customer service in exchange for gaining profits and\or cutting loses." They are making these decisions because they make more money on console, so why is it going to hurt them in long run? Everyone company is leaning the same way.

Then Battlefield Bad Company 2 promises dedicated server support, mod support, and says the game won't be a straight port because the PC version requires features that console players don't take advantage of.

I can guarantee you that Bad Company 2 will be ported from the 360 because that's how development is done these days. How early it will be ported over is a different matter though. I can also bet you that the console version sells a lot more than the PC version. I've got a friend working on BC2, so I'll try to get some info on it. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't even have a PC version running yet.
