Football is a sport though. Fighting is supposed to be that, a fight, last man standing wins. And size didn't matter either because I do also remember that gracie fool doing his toe tap ankle tickle move and would fuck people up lol. Shit was awesome hahaha. I dont see how winning the fight by any means necessary would be considered skilless though. Makes you wonder how some of those fight in todays mma fight would turn out if there were no rules.

MMA is a sport, that is why there are rules and regulations.
Other examples: Boxing, Muay Thai, and Kickboxing. Football, in it's early days didn't have many rules/regulations, but eventually needed it as people were getting way too fucked up. So to preserve the sport, just like with MMA, had to be done.

Size matters more nowadays because people are more skilled lol. Royce would get rag dolled by Lesnar, Couture, Fedor, Antonio Silva, Overeem etc etc. No contest, and any of those old schoolers would have been raped by the newer gen lol. (Actually some of the guys I listed did compete in bare knuckle fights, just not the original UFC).

Those fights back then were of less skill, significant actually. That is just fact, dudes were brawlers and tough guys back then. I pretty much described how fights would be if it was the old school rules today; deformed mother fuckers/facial reconstruction.

Bouncers handle street fighters regularly (drunk, sure, but w/e not the point) and most of them are just taught grappling. Holds & Trows.

Not saying I don't like the new stuff, I do, but for a different reason. The new rules/regs require a combination of strength, experience, heart, technical skill etc. The top MMA guys are extremely fine tuned atheletes (mentally and physically), just like top level fighters in any other fighting sport today.

However, it's not as exciting as the old stuff most of the time, much for the reasons you stated.

Think about it...these days when you watch MMA with your boys, when does the living room get crazy? When the guys start going blow for blow right? I bet you the living room is pretty silent when they are the ground trying to out grapple one another. While grappling takes more skill than a slug fest, it's pretty fucking boring to watch most of the time, especially if the opponents are evenly matched.

That's why many of the GSP fights are boring as fuck to watch these days. He's past the "come up" stage where he just destroys motherfuckers. He's a top level athelete now, so his opponents are very evenly matched and the fights are pretty boring/technical.
