Woops! I guess I didn't notice that the $20 package doesn't get beta access till the 31st. I wouldn't have minded paying the extra $10, but I don't see a way to upgrade the package from one to the next. See ya in a couple weeks!

What exactly does this game have that I can't get by playing DayZ mod? I'm having trouble dumping money on something I already have for free.

Hopefully it has me not dying when I lay down on a static object on the ground. Hopefully it has someone in LoD who lives on the west coast and plays when I do, and hopefully, just hopefully it has fewer hackers. HOPEFULLY!!!!

I'm not cheating on DayZ, I'm just getting some side booty till DayZ standalone comes out. OKAY?!?!

The real answer to your question is "I have no idea", but I'm definitely interested in this style of game and I'm willing to give it a shot.

Why do we play every WoW clone when we have WoW? It's something that that at least feels fresh and new. New map, new exploration, new victims. Shrug

I would love to put my blinders on for this game and try it, but every video/review I watch points to a cash grab. This is what I've learned by being an informed consumer:

1) Game is a mod of War inc. So I checked reviews for War Inc and the engine it's based on is very unstable and buggy. Mind you it has been out for over a year and is apparently riddled with bugs still.

2) WarZ has no vehicles, but the map is the same size? wtf

3) All the hacks available from WarInc will easily work on WarZ, because they are same engine. Same reason why Arma 2 hacks worked for dayz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CeAhqcJG_0

4) The mod has only been in development for 4 months. You are going to get the same amount of game breaking bugs as Dayz, except they charge money for it. Yes, you can die laying down on rocks in WarZ (you get stuck inside them and then starve to death). Maybe they were realllly trying hard to emulate Dayz. lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXGt4ruPhg8

5) Right now there is an account-wide bank so you can store your best items and never worry about losing them. Weapons are extremely easy to find, and ammo is extremely hard to find. That's because ammo is going to be purchasable with RL cash. It's obvious they want every to get guns easy and then force them to buy ammo.

6) Can't loot other peoples banks. No tent system or ability to find an enemys stash. Another Cash option they plan for release is allow your character to insta-res himself after death and ability to open your bank vault from any location. (Right now you can open your bank from any location, but that's just meant for alpha, that functionality will only be for paying customers come beta)

7) Food/Drink is hard to find and the rate in which you starve is extremely fast. That way when you are in a really tight bind, and death is imminent, you will be forced to spend RL money to buy pasta and keep your guy alive.

8) No real survival elements other than hunger/thirst. No broken legs, no bleeding, no fucked up vision. No peaking/leaning around corners. Only thing I can't find out is if there is independent head movement, but I don't think there is.

I still have Dayz on my computer with about 4 unique maps installed, and I'm white listed on several private servers where hacking doesn't exist. On top of that I've learned not to lay down on anything but flat ground.

My biggest gripes with DayZ are:
1) Not enough place-able/baracading objects. Causes screen tearing when more than 10 barb wires placed in 1 spot.

2) Not enough people in 1 map so large. 60 not close to enough

3) Server hoping for goods or to get behind people (apparently plex says this exists in WarZ)

4) Bugged choppers that eat your repairs and don't fix themselves.

5) To many high powered assault rifles. This isn't BF3. In a real zombie apocalypse not everyone and their friend is going to have an AS-50, Machine Gun Combo.

6) Buggy tents/camps.

Well dayz has about 4 new maps that nobody has ever played. I highly doubt it's because of the new map or exploration. 1.3 million people play dayz, so its not new victims either. So I guess the only reason is because it's Fresh and New.

..or the real reason is because gamers are highly susceptible to marketing and easily sold to.

For me it's much more simple than all that - if it looks fun, and other people I enjoy playing with are playing it, then I'll try it, just like I did DayZ. If I was buying a house or a car, I would do enough research to write a couple pages of reasons why I should or should not buy said item. However, spending $20 to try a new game is worth it to me, even if I'm bored of it or arrive at the same conclusions you did, but 2 months later after trying it myself.

Bottom line for me is that DayZ in its current state is too frustrating for ME. I could see myself loving a version of it that was more secure and less buggy, and I hope the standalone is just that.

Some people have so much money they don't even do research on the houses and cars they buy. Some people won't spend a dollar unless their wife approves. Everyone has different levels of purchasing power.

I'm just informing people who have to watch their $$, because I'm in the same boat as them. I can't go spending $30 extra a week on every new F2P game that comes out.

Every point I made about WarZ and DayZ can't be found unless you go to about 15-20 different websites/youtube videos. I'm just trying to help people do their research and bring it all in 1 post.

I've been playing for a day or so on/off.

The servers are very unstable and I can rarely stay connected for more than 15 mins.

There are lots of bugs; invisible zombies eating your back, players that don't seem to take damage (maybe Vermihax is playing).

I agree with Rain on all his points. The global bank is really strange, you can just log out, re-equip or drop items in your bank and then log back in.

As noted, the online shop sells ammo and food, so it's kinda pay to win. I killed a lot of people with guns who had no ammo.

I must say I had fun laying waste to people with a hammer but I can't say at any stage I felt scared...more amused really.
