Yep, QFT. Murderers are murderers plain and simple. If it's not guns it's going to be another thing.

The main problem in Chicago with guns is gang violence. It's true that if a gangbanger didn't have a "gat" or a "piece" that he would probably not kill his "enemy" but instead resort to an old-fashioned melee. Still, the potential for homicide is pretty high in those circumstances.

In isolated cases where gun violence affects white people (sorry, but it's true - there are many school shootings that only affect black schools in Chicago that never make national news coverage) it's a different story 'cos the killer didn't have any logical reason to show up and murder all of those people/children.

I read somewhere that the killer was autistic? I think perhaps we as a society should focus more on maintaining mental health of its citizens - especially during childhood/formative years - because that seems to be the main correlation with all of these serial killers/mass murderers: They're fucking bat-shit crazy!
