Does anyone here actually think more gun control wouldn't help prevent this shit from happening or make it tougher in the future if stronger measures were taken? Here is a good article if you think it wouldnt help.

Who knows what stronger measures there are to take. Anybody that does mass murders like this is not a rational thinking person. Bad people are going to get their hands on guns if they really need to. There is a insane amount of guns in this control as it is.

I can see possible mental health checks for gun applicants, but even then, a lot of these mental fools aren't exactly idiots. It wouldn't be hard to get around this.

I would like to see security employed at schools, armed. A few security guards just to make sure there is a line of defense for our children and to let these dudes know that they will have a fight waiting for them, because a lot of these mental rejects are pure cowards and it shows, shooting defenseless children and teachers.

In Chicago we have a ton of handgun-related homicides, and handguns have been illegal to possess for about 15 years or so (save for about 5-6 months early last year when the ban was overturned briefly).

I honestly don't think more gun control would stop things like this from happening. Mass producing firearms is a huge industry and not all of the weapons are going to go to law enforcement/military. Unless the production of firearms is limited (which would meet much more contention than restricting possession of firearms, I imagine) you will see firearms available for sale on the street market.

Simple precautions like metal detectors and properly trained security personnel like Godsmak suggested go a long way to deter/prevent tragedies like this from occurring.

as much as im against gun control, more specifically hand gun control. We have very strict gun laws in Canada, even more in Montreal. But we are one of the citys with the most school mass murders, weather thats caused by the french is another issue

Gun control laws focus on the "way". Guns in many of these recent tragedies did not belong to those that committed them, therefore more gun control would most likely not prevent anything.

What we should be focusing on is why there is a "will" to do such a thing.

The main problem in Chicago with guns is gang violence. It's true that if a gangbanger didn't have a "gat" or a "piece" that he would probably not kill his "enemy" but instead resort to an old-fashioned melee. Still, the potential for homicide is pretty high in those circumstances.

In isolated cases where gun violence affects white people (sorry, but it's true - there are many school shootings that only affect black schools in Chicago that never make national news coverage) it's a different story 'cos the killer didn't have any logical reason to show up and murder all of those people/children.

I read somewhere that the killer was autistic? I think perhaps we as a society should focus more on maintaining mental health of its citizens - especially during childhood/formative years - because that seems to be the main correlation with all of these serial killers/mass murderers: They're fucking bat-shit crazy!

So, to understand the anti-gun control argument, because we cannot completely prevent an evil, we no longer take measures to mitigate it?

i think the steps we take a good, but just by doing it you wont solve the murder issue, more security on schools could be a good start tho
