I agree that guns should remain available to each American citizen, but I believe there should be restrictions on who can own a firearm. Idiots like the above

I think you're giving a lot of stupid people undeserved credit by thinking that we can simply teach gun safety and be okay with that. I believe a test should be issued before you get your FOID (kind of like a driving test when you get your drivers' license) that includes gun safety and gun maintenance, but also a mental health evaluation.
