You can't bank on when/what crazy shit will go down, but what you can bank on is a huge line of people trying to shove their agenda down everyone throats to follow immediately behind it. And tons of sheep eating it up and supporting whatever agenda that is, this time it's gun control.

Sometimes people eat a face. You can't stop crazy.

This right here. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Also, those of you advocating gun control forget WHY we have the 2nd amendment. Our country was born out of an oppressive monarchy that advocated "might is right". Our founding fathers felt it was important for all citizens to be able to own guns so that a standing militia could be raised at any time in the event that the government became too powerful. In short, it's to ensure the general population's ability to revolt. Revolution is something you see played out in human history over and over again since the beginning of time because of the nature of human beings to take advantage of one another and the powerful to force their government on the weak with threats of war death and violence if they do not conform.

While that may seem silly today, it may not be silly tomorrow. Human beings are fucking crazy and in the event the shit hits the fan and I ever need a gun to defend myself or my family, be it from "enemies foreign or domestic", I don't want to be helpless because a bunch of sheeple jumped on the bandwagon and outlawed my ability to own firearms because a couple of nut jobs went off their rockers.

The fact of living in a free society is that sometimes tragedies happen and people get away with crimes due to the free nature of that society. It sucks, and yes, if it was my kid dead, I would be heart broken. That doesn't mean I feel that government should enforce more control.

Also Trance, I believe you mean semi-automatic, not automatic. I'm not patronizing, but asking seriously, do you know the difference? If you do, then you should know that many shotguns, hunting rifles and revolvers are also semi automatic. They may have smaller magazine sizes (6 as opposed to 10 or 20), but do you really think that will make a difference if someone goes on a killing spree? All the guy has to do is reload the gun a little more frequently.
