On that first part, you'd be surprised dude...In Denver, the city decided it didn't want Pit Bulls anymore so they passed a law banning them. It was a law that was reactionary, based on tragedy, and had no basis in statistcal studies or evidence, much like this issue. When "D Day" came, they actually sent animal control officers door to door and took pepople's family pets from them. These were not vicious dogs that had a history of attacking people. These were peoples' pets that had been nothing but loving and good to their masters. You had 10 days to retrieve your dog or it would be put down. In order to get your dog out doggy jail, you had to sign a waiver of rights saying that 1. You admit your dog is a pitt bull (even though there is no such breed) and 2. If they catch the dog in city limits again, it will be taken and put down and you waive all rights to appeal the action. So basically, they held your dog hostage and made you waive your legal rights to save it from death. Much like this issue, the law did not stop dog fighting rings and in fact, since it was passed 10 years ago or whatever, there is not one statiscal study that can prove it had any effect whatsoever on dog bite injury or mortality rates.

My point is, you have to watch your politicians very VERY carefully. They use tragedies like this to further their careers by putting on their capes and being the hero to the sheeple who believe whatever they read in the news. If you do not pay attention and fight legislation about issues like this where the government is trying to revoke or limit your rights to ownership or other civil liberties, you very well could wake up one day to a knock on the door demanding that you turn over your firearms or go to jail.

Re: 2, I agree, and as soon as I see you in game I'm pk'ing you.

Meh...

I would like to keep this subject dead but I just keep laughing at your bullets going through walls thing...

For reference because you clearly have not used one in a while.. just about every single firearm when discharged will go through a standard interior wall.... Which consists of 2 sheets of drywall with a layer of r35/45 insulation & the studs at every 6" or 8".... Interior walls dont often have the layers of sheetrock you get with exterior walls unless your paying the money for it.

With that said.. Yes rifles go through walls but so does just about every .45 small arm & definately your shot guns.... Infact go borrow a mosberg, load her up some streetsweeper rounds, & fire it off at a sheet of drywall..... Shotgun w/ buckshot will rip the wall to shreds & send those chunks of wall flying.

Last I checked chunks of wall burried into your skull sucks just as much as any other object that gets burried into your skull.. You still got something stuck in your skull.

Also.. Though I do appretiate your view that if there was a way to "control" it better that would be great.... Thats commie thinking.... Sounds great but its not possible to ever put into effect & make work.

How about instead of looking at how to curb putting guns into peoples hands that we actually foster the process.... Tell me in your heart of hearts that if this country had the most ultimate gun control policies out there.. That crazies still couldnt get their hands on em. Facts are drugs are "controlled" but anyone could get anything if they wanted & they do reguardless of consequence. Moonshine is controlled & there is alchohol available EVERYWHERE but moonshine & everything that goes with it still exists right now in america year 2012. Last time I checked bombs/explosives are on that kind of list yet crazies like the unibomber are still going to do unibomber damage using them...... This list goes on & on & on.

As soon as the assholes stop trying to "control" everything.......

Please Selm tell me in your heart of hearts that in place of uberist gun control that we actually properly train every American in fire arms.. Tell me this latest school shooting wouldnt have been different........

Several of the teachers after the first shots were fired were smart, brave enough to hide their students... One teacher hid her students in the coat closset, pulled a bookshelf infront of the closset, kept speaking to the children keeping them calm & quiet while she waited for the unknown of what was to come. The shooter enterered the teachers room where the teacher explained to the shooter that her students were in another classroom before she got her pretty little head removed.......

Put yourself in her shoes...... Hiding your family in a closet while you sit bravely waiting for the Nazi's to come "knock" knowing what is coming.........

Tell me in your heart of hearts if that teacher had her own firearm.... Now give her some firearms training........ Now do you think that a brave woman that took a bullet to the face for her students wouldnt have been ready & able to do what she needed to do if she had the tool to? Tell me you think that this teacher & her students were much safer that day a crazy showed up that could give a fuck about your gun control/political beliefs because she didnt have a gun...

Heres some numbers for you to keep it simple... If a school has 25 faculty, teachers, etc. but none of em has a gun, firearms training, etc. do you think that school is safer from an attack than if it had every teacher/faculty member armed and trained? I mean I feel better knowing my child is at a school that is protected by 25 armed & trained teachers, faculty, etc.

A safer America is not 0 guns/bullets... A safer America is every red blooded American not only equiped but trained with firearms.. See I am not affraid if evryone of us has an AK47...... I get affraid when I "cant" have my AK47 but I know those other crazies out there do.

You lose.

Godwin's law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies or Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies is an argument made by Mike Godwin in 1990 that has become an Internet adage. It states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches." In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis.

". . .there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress. . ."

Selminus wins by default. Fly just sunk the 8 ball and DQ'd his team!

/fail!

But more importantly... thread over.

False:

However there is also a widely- recognized codicil that any intentional triggering of Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful.

Fly did it on purpose trying to torpedo the thread. I call foul.

My bad Fly, I'm not a ballistics expert but common sense and experience drilling thru dozens of skulls tells me I'd rather be on the recieving end of a buckhsot and not a 39mm bullet. Absolutely nothing other than a steel stud sent at a perfect angle or the bullet itself is going to get anywhere near your dura if it hits you in the cranium thru a wall. Ribs have cancellous bone so they're easier to penetrate, but the fascia you have there that you don't have on your skull provides good compensation versus a secondary blast. As a laymen it would be much safer for me to aim a shotgun down a hallway at 3am in the dark and just let it rip. I would be more likely to score on an intruder that way. Granted, you Verm and G-Fist probably have night vision goggles, laser sights and artillery support so you get more options than I do. I'm fine with you guys being armed to the tooth, but to tell me that there's already too many weapons out there anyway and fuck it just sounds like defeatist thinking.

Here is a good article by a special forces member regarding this exact topic http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/20...t-shooting.html

Arming teachers is fine with me, but if you go to your local elementary school I think what you're going to find are primarily women, and I doubt that the vast majority of them want to serve as hybirds much less pick up a firearm in the first place. We can put our shit ton of unemployed veterans in schools as armed guards ( they had 2 armed guards at Columbine, look how that worked out ) and hope that they can stop the massacres in time, but I think you would need a handful of them instead of one or two and we are already dramatically low on funds for law enforcement.

I just think that it's a sad state of affairs when our society is in a situation where we have to have metal detectors and armed security around our 6 year olds. There have to be other ways to address this epidemic.

Hey thats cool & all but I brought Nazi"s up because this is where my American Family comes from & why I was taught to feel the way that I do...

Facts are.. For my family atleast... EVERYONE ON MY FATHERS SIDE OF THE FAMILY BUT MY GREAT GRANDPA DIED IN NAZI GERMANY. JUST SAYING THEY DIED IS PUTTING IT NICELY...... THE REASON FOR NEARLY MY ENTIRE BLOODLINE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE EARTH WAS THAT THE POLITICAL POWERS THAT BE WANTED "JEW CONTROL"

Here... You grow up on stories like how My great Aunt dies of heart break after her newborn baby freezes to death less than 1 hour after being born because to lite a fire at night will give away your location..... Think your newborn dead because to light a fire would get everyone caught & killed. Oh the story gets better.... The rest of the surviving members got to enjoy the pleasure of eating my great aunt after she passed...... Not a whole lot of food around during war... Thats right this is real shit your pants stuff & I am not fucking with you... I could compose a whole wall of text on it.. Again only my Great Grandpa made it out..

Shit is kind of a big deal to me & I will sink my teeth in on it.. To discount Government & peoples desires to control their neighbors is a deadly mistake... WWII was less than 70 years ago.. Hell this school shooting was a week ago... Its still there every fucking day & its not going away despite all the commie wishy washy bullshit

Selminus and G-Fist should just get into each others guards already and do a BJJ rollfest and see who taps to each others sweaty man stink submission first.

Wow, 17 page thread that I didn't even notice until now. Didn't expect to see a topic like this here.

I think I'm in the minority right now in thinking that the current gun laws are actually pretty good in most states, and I wouldn't advocate any significant change either way.

When debating this it's important to establish that the US is not Scotland, Australia, or any other country where stricter gun laws could feasibly eliminate the availability of firearms. The US has a long tradition of private gun ownership, and any debate that ignores this fact or expects it to change is utopian.

That said, the "arm everyone" argument is even more utopian. We're not about to become a martial society overnight and even if we did, the average person has neither the proper mindset nor the will to kill someone regardless of training. Studies as far back as the 40's suggest that this also applies to people in life or death situations. I think it's irresponsible to encourage people to do something they aren't suited to do. Right now firearms are usually carried by people who have an interest in them and some rudimentary training; I'd like to keep it that way. We're not nearly unified or homogenous enough to hand everyone a gun and expect a consistently responsible outcome. The fact that areas with more guns have less crime is demographics, not the guns themselves.

But these are just the talking points of partisan hacks, let's look at some outcome that might exist in the real world.

1. Reinstatement of the 1994-2004 assault weapons ban.
A piece of legislation that had no notable effect on violent crime statistics in spite of what Dianne Feinstein would have you believe. It's the typical legislation of something by people who know nothing about what they're trying to ban. This ban identified assault weapons by their cosmetics. It was an abysmal failure, assault weapons continued to account for about five percent of gun crimes throughout the duration of the bill. It hit its sunset provision and was allowed to expire without remark. Unless Feinstein decided to put in some range time I doubt she learned enough about guns to do anything more than make a list of scary babykiller guns to be banned.

(The scary black babykiller gun)
The level to which people are uninformed on this issue makes me feel obligated to bring this up just to show the absurdity of the public debate. The standard Twatter/Failbook argument for the masses is to ban all scary peoplekiller guns and leave only the benign deer-killing ones. This one is impossible since unbeknownst to them selective fire weapons are already tightly controlled under a separate law (I won't go into it), and an "assault rifle" without selective fire is just a semi-auto with some cosmetic and ergonomic features. The fact is the public doesn't know enough about guns to know what to ban, and neither do our representatives. No matter where you stand on this issue, this will accomplish nothing. Semi-automatic firearms are 1880's tech, they're not going anywhere.

2. Magazine capacity
Another likely outcome of the coming firearms legislation will be an attempt to control mag capacity. Basically a large magazine (30-100 is usually what they're referring to) is what allows you to keep up an effective rate of fire on a semi-automatic weapon. They'd like to make it so 10 round mags were available and 30 round mags were not. This is yet another pipe dream by people who think this is super-specialized babykilling technology. There's about as many high capacity mags floating around for most rifles as there are fish in the sea. Even if you could somehow restrict them, best case scenario is you end up with 10 dead kids instead of 20, you're controlling a symptom, not addressing the problem.

3. Gun show loophole
Some people don't like gun shows because it lets people who couldn't otherwise purchase a firearm purchase one. I won't go into this because it's contingent on enforcement of other laws.

My take on this is it's not really about guns. The people shooting people are the ones to blame, of course, but if I were to look for a culprit for the trend it would be our shit-tier media. Peroxide blondes and talking heads keep stupid, impressionable people in a state of perpetual fear where they'll believe anyfuckingthing if it fits into an idiotic narrative simplified for mass consumption. It's sensationalist reinforcement of bad impulses, and that's fine in the privacy of niche websites, but should be ridiculed in the real world instead of being embraced by media whores. I hate to go all Rorschach about this but I am convinced that if you banned guns you'd only make a dent in the bodycount, not the prevalence of senseless violence. Scotland for instance brags about how they brought down their gun crime after their big school shooting by banning guns. They're pretty quiet about their huge knife crime problem though.

This was already taken care of in my opinion in the Bill of Rights. A well-regulated militia is basically a segment of normal community-minded citizens with the proper temperament to handle weapons, and has the added benefit of already being distributed throughout the community. Arming 90 pound preschool teachers is a bad joke. I want to see more guns in the hands of ordinary citizens with the proper temperament, the kind of people who don't have extralegal authority that removes them from the local society.
