I've been slow to the party, but have finally decided to get back in to DF. Guess I'll have to do some research to see if there are any character creation items that I need to know before I start that will be beneficial or adversely affect a role style (such as race X being bad at magic). How's the population and game play? Any sage words of wisdom before getting started?

All races are equal finally.

Nothing to it, just use google image search, put the word "gif" or "meme" after the title in your search and wah-wah..
Search 'youtube gif generator' if ya wanna make a gif from anything you've seen on the youtubes..
There are many websites with meme generators thatll let you upload a photo and add whatever caption you'd like to it (Or just use paint)). PrtScr it,paste it in paint,crop n save it to an image hosting website,get the directlink and wah-wah
Use ctrl+c and ctrl+v for quick copy&pasting. Operating system & application shortcuts are so fucking nice and your friend.
After messing around with the shit enough you'll be able to add whatever type of captioned picture or gif to the forums as fast as you can think of the idea(except for time wasted with internet lag to deliver what you need)
