Remove the profit motive like Fly said and you remove the incentives for development. Limit competition and you drive costs up because fewer entities hold all the chips. Central planning is a proven failed method of management.

The government is accountable to the corporations and banks because they are the ones who have all the capital that goes into government in the form of taxes then lobbyists get what they want from the government I.E subsidies, tax breaks, government deals to do business with them etc. As long as there is big money in government service we will have a government that is accountable to the banks and corporations before the people. The people with the most money have the most influence in government as it stands now.
