Ex-CBO Director Douglas Holtz-Eakin estimated that after stripping out all the “gimmicks and budgetary games,” a more realistic estimate is that the ACA would add roughly $500 billion to the deficit in its first 10 years and about $2 trillion in its first two decades. "The new CBO figures do not appreciably alter this conclusion. The current-law estimates of the impact of the ACA are dead wrong. Informed Americans should not be fooled by claims that the ACA offers deficit reduction."
