That statement went completely over the heads of the pro-gun squawk box.

No, not at all. Rolo linked a pretty well sourced study earlier in the thread which showed that tougher gun laws have no measurable impact on gun violence at all. This idea is also illogical. Someone that's capable of murder outside of self-defense isn't going to give a shit about obtaining a gun illegally.

There's hundreds of millions of guns already in circulation. Gun laws almost never apply retroactively. Meaning if you obtained a gun legally, if that gun becomes illegal, you can usually still keep it. You just can't buy any new guns of that type in the future. Do you think someone that wants to commit murder is going to have a hard time obtaining a gun illegally if they really want to?

In the US, convicted felons are not allowed to own guns. Sonya's a criminal defense lawyer. Maybe he can speak up on how frequently his clients who are charged with violent crimes involving guns are first time felony offenders? I bet it's not very often.....

It didn't go over my head at all. Hexen can correct me if I am wrong here. My interpretation of this comment based on what I know of Hexen is that he's saying that if a person on either side of the issue dislikes the gun laws where they live, they are free to move somewhere that has laws they prefer. State-based gun legislation is okay because by and large, the laws of that state will mirror the gun culture of that state.

He's right but I think that's an overly simplistic view. Yes, it's true for some people. Not for me. All my friends and my immediate family live in my state. My son lives here and so does his mom. My job and career are here. Picking up and moving to a pro-gun state is not a simple option for me and probably not for anyone else who's not single with no strong ties to a particular state. So yea, in my state when and where I can, I will fight back against any legislation that restricts gun ownership.

We aren't worried about the law abiding citizens killing people.

I could see banning people from owning guns who have documented mental illness, similarly to how felons can't purchase guns.

Guy sounds crazy right? What disturbs me is he sounds like a lot of you in this thread. You guys might wanna question your day to day before you end up dead in a Walmart.

In this country that kinda talk makes you a liberal hippie. Anyone who promotes the restriction of guns in any form is an enemy of the 2nd amendment.

Ignore Rok. He's flipped into idiot shit talk mode again. Can't come up with anything worthwhile to say so resorts to personal attacks and shit talk.

They actually passed laws like this in California this year and contrary to Roktheory, I am all for it. There's also an assembly bill going through the legislature right now in CA that would allow for gun violence restraining orders. Essentially, if someone feels you are capable of gun violence, they go file the appropriate paperwork with the court. Just like a regular restraining order, a judge hears the case and if the petitioner can provide sufficient evidence to satisfy the court, the order is issued. At that point, the cops can legally come to your house and seize your guns. I am actually fine with this as well and I hope it passes. If this law had existed a couple months ago, Elliot Rodgers might have had his guns taken away before he killed people.

I think people that have a history of mental illness should not be able to own or purchase guns. Similarly, I think someone with a history of violence and/or who makes credible threats of future violence should have their guns taken away too.

Wait though Vermi... Wont the people with mental illness/history of violence just use another means to kill instead? Should we restrict the mentally ill from possessing knives and pressure cookers??

Even IF you restrict the mentally ill/individuals with a history of violence from purchasing guns, won't they just go through the burgeoning black market to buy guns? Drugs are illegal, but I can go buy a gram of heroin right now if I wanted.

Your ideas sound like a big-government bureaucratic nightmares if you ask me.

You spent an entire thread explaining why you think cops shouldn't have access to the equipment needed to preform such raids.

I'm not going to rehash an argument I've already had with you Rok. It might end up with you telling me you wish I wasn't in your online gaming clan again because you're so angry.

You never provided any credible responses to any of the points I brought up in that thread. I provided sources and logical points. You talked shit, got butthurt, resorted to personal attacks and didn't provided any sources for anything you said in that thread.

No thanks.
