That's the actual purpose of the 2nd amendment. It's why foreigners rightly look at these controversies and go "wtf?".
It does seem ass backwards when you look at it that way, but then again, many of those foreigners are in shitty communist/dictatorship countries where if you oppose the government the government will kill you.
It's the right to question the government that keeps the government more in check here in the USA.
