I wouldn't expect anyone from a country where your government has stripped you of your freedom and you've been force fed the idea that such behavior is okay to understand what I am talking about.
So if there was poisonois gas outside your house and the government stripped you of your freedom to go outside you will still be crying, amiright? Your gun freedom directly results into thousands of avoidable deaths per year. You like your guns(for whatever reason) more than you care about a bunch of random people you know nothing about that are going to die by the end of the year. Me being a foreigner has nothing to do with me understanding the issue and it's actualy prety sad that you mention it, especialy after it was one of the valid points this "funny" guy made in the video. Me being a smart ass does though.

Yeah in a sense you're right. It's just the legal enshrinement of the idea that a free individual has the natural right to self-defense, and to resist tyrannical oppression. We're not doing an ordinary cost/benefit analysis because we aren't supposed to. It's considered an important right under our founding laws, and can only be restricted to the degree that it doesn't conflict with that basic natural right to be armed.
Personally I think our gun laws are fine overall. They tend to vary by state depending on local opinion, local need, and local problems. I'm perfectly willing to entertain any proposed overall change, but I've noticed whenever I ask people to tell me what they want to change, they either have no idea, are proposing something we already do, or want something blatantly unconstitutional and unrealistic. Our media are basically prostitutes for political parties, and consequently they like to play this out as some sexy topical issue for debate, rather than a mundane legal balancing act. I think it's important to remember that your average American journalist is just some chick who sucked a lot of dicks in college.
Harry]Buncha lame shit I've already said 3x before in this thread.
Dude Harry, do you even sarcasm? My entire post was meant in a snarky way and written assuming that whoever read it had watched the video. I'd think you'd have figured out by now that 75% of the shit I post on these forums is sarcastic shit talk. Maybe I should have posted this along with my words to really drive the sarcasm home?

^ Yup.
Not going to go into some long repeat of what I have already said and Hexen did a pretty good job of summarizing how I feel anyway.
To take a step back and consider the broader issue of freedom in general, every free/democratic society must determine the amount of freedom it's willing to give up for "safety", aka government control. Total and complete freedom means anarchy, which nobody wants. The other end of the spectrum is totalitarianism, like North Korea. The very nature of a free society is that the more freedom the citizens are allowed, the more crime will happen because the criminals get the same protections as the law abiding citizens. A lot of citizens in 1st world countries have decided that only the government should have guns. America is not one of those countries. You can love that or hate it but to say we only wants guns because we like guns and don't give a fuck about other people's lives is a massive oversimplification of the argument.
Teriya]I think I read somewhere that I'm more likely to die to a drunk driver than to a school shooting... yolo.
ban beer
That's the hilarity of the whole thing when arguing with people like Harry and Outrage. They have no good counterargument for simple logical comparisons.
From the MADD website:
In 2012, 239 child passengers (under age 15) were killed in drunk driving crashes – representing 20 percent of all child traffic fatalities. Of those, more than half (52 percent) were passengers in a vehicle with the drunk driver.
That was the same year in which Sandy Hook took place, where 20 kids were killed. So drunk driving killed 10 times as many kids as died in Sandy Hook but nobody talks about banning alcohol (again).
Why would a ban on alcohol not be 10x more important than a ban on guns if drunk drivers are killing 10 times as many children?

maybe we should reenact prohibition - this time do it right and ban alcohol, drugs, and guns so that we're safe.
